The Rural Workforce Agency Victoria in partnership with the Victorian Department of Health, co-ordinate the annual awards to celebrate the individuals and teams who are making a real and lasting difference across rural and regional Victoria.

Rural Workforce Agency CEO Lauren Cordwell said exceptional healthcare is being delivered every day in rural and regional Victoria, driven by dedicated professionals who are choosing to live, work and care for their communities.

“The Victorian Rural Health Awards are a vital opportunity to recognise the outstanding dedication of health professionals across rural and regional Victoria. Every day, these clinicians, teams and support staff strengthen the wellbeing and resilience of their communities, often working under unique pressures and with unwavering commitment.

“Celebrating their contribution not only honours their impact, but also inspires the next generation of health professionals to live, work and care in our rural and regional communities,” she said.

“This year’s finalists reflect the strength of the entire rural health system, including clinicians, practice staff, students, outreach teams and educators.

“Across small towns and rural areas, these health professionals play a vital role not only in providing care but also in ensuring communities remain vibrant, connected, and supported. Recognising and celebrating their contribution is essential to encouraging more clinicians, staff and future leaders to live and work in rural and regional Victoria,” Ms Cordwell said.

In addition to his work at the Ararat Medical Centre, Dr Pretorius also works with patients at East Grampians Health Service and mentors students with Deakin Medical School.
