Roadside burns commence
WILLAURA CFA recommenced its roadside burning program recently in a bid to reduce roadside vegetation and mitigate fire risk. The burn was supported by the CFA’s Planned Burn Task Force, whose volunteer members come from across the state to assist brigades with their important fuel reduction programs.

Also involved were personnel and equipment from neighbouring brigades.
Willaura Captain, Joel Michell said it was a big effort from all volunteers involved.
“The Willaura Fire Brigade recently conducted roadside burns, with approximately 80 hectares covered in one day.
“With challenging wind conditions and high heat, the brigade pushed through with a huge show of support from the Willaura Fire Brigade community and the Bornes Hill community. This ensured the burns were not just successful but done in a professional manner.
“I’d like to say it’s the motor bike riders, who start out first and light the fires, that make the burns such a success.
The final stage of the work conducted by several members was the thankless task of working well into the evening hours and early the next day to ensure that no flare ups occurred with Tuesday’s strong winds.
“Well done to all who were involved and thank you.”
